Current Volunteer Opportunities

The needs in our community continue to change, so opportunities to lend a hand are evolving, too. On this page we will compile the public volunteer opportunities we know about. They may be organized by the Aid Network, one of our affiliated organizations, or someone else.

To receive updates about volunteer opportunities by email, including time-sensitive requests for help that do not get posted here, click here to sign up as a South Boston Neighborhood Aid Network volunteer and we will add you to our outreach list!

If you would like us to add your volunteer opportunity to the list, email sbneighborhoodaid@gmail.com!

Help Plan the 2021 South Boston Street Festival

Mark your calendar for 11am - 4pm on Saturday, September 18, for the return of the 21st Annual South Boston Street Festival!

The 20th Annual Street Festival ended early due to rain in 2019, and we all know that 2020 was... complicated. So the South Boston Chamber and SBNDC are fully committed to making this year’s Street Festival an all-out celebration of South Boston. But we can’t do it alone!

If you:

Want to support local businesses

✅ Are excited about the return of our community events

✅ Love South Boston and want to give back

Please consider joining the Street Festival Planning Committee, and help make this year’s Street Festival bigger and better than ever! We need help with things like business and community outreach, brainstorming and planning activities, and helping promote the event online and across South Boston.

Email info@southbostonchamber.org for more details. And keep an eye on this page for day-of volunteer opportunities!

Specific Dates

May 15 - Love Your Block - South Boston (Neighborhood-wide)

In conjunction with the City of Boston's Love Your Block events, South Boston NDC and the Chamber of Commerce are encouraging business owners, nonprofits, and neighborhood residents to spend a little time tidying up their sidewalks or street corners.

On Saturday, May 15, we hope to see folks across South Boston out and about helping to pick up litter, reporting issues to 3-1-1 and saying hello to your neighbors!

No sign-up necessary.

May 19 and 20 - Flyer alongside the Fresh Truck Mobile Market

Help us get the word out about the South Boston Neighborhood Aid Network to families in South Boston!

We will be distributing flyers and information to families in two housing developments in South Boston while the Fresh Truck Mobile Market is on site (www.aboutfresh.org/fresh-truck/).

Two dates to choose from (note times and locations are different each day):

  • Wednesday, May 19, from 9:30am - 12:30 pm, at West Broadway, 7 Joyce Hayes Way

  • Thursday, May 20, from 10am - 1pm, at Sterling Square, Mary Ellen McCormack

Notes:

  • Volunteers do not need to be available for the entire shift! If you can only come during your lunch break, that's ok.

  • We will provide you with materials to distribute and our group of volunteers will be stationary (you will not be moving throughout the development).

  • Rain or shine, so dress accordingly!

  • Parking is on-street and limited at each location. We encourage you to walk, bike, or take public transit to the site.

Feel free to send questions/concerns to SBNeighborhoodAid@gmail.com.
